WILD CARD WEEKEND: Washington Redskins (9-7) vs. Seattle Seahawks (10-6), 4th Quarter
6:58 ET: Moments after NBC throws up a graphic showing that Todd Collins has a 158.3 QB rating in the 4th quarter this season, he completes a pass to Antwaan Randle El to get the Redskins on the board. It’s 13-7 Seahawks.
7:04 ET: But maybe not for long. LaRon Landry picks off Matt Hasselbeck, and here comes the Sean Taylor chatter/here come the Redskins.
7:05 ET: Touchdown, Sean Taylor. Collins to Moss. 14-13 Redskins.
7:09 ET: So, about that special teams dominance… Washington’s Anthony Mix cleanly recovers the kickoff at the Seattle 14. Yes. It bounced over the head of Nate Burleson, and Mix simply grabbed the ball and ran into the end zone. The Seahawks were saved by the rule that prohibits the advancement of a kickoff recovered by the kicking team.
7:15 PM: And they cannot capitalize. Shawn Suisham hooks a 30-yard field goal, and the Seahawks catch a huge break.
7:18 PM: So LaRon Landry intercepts Hasselbeck again. This time it’s deep in Washington territory.
7:21 PM: Three and out for the Redskins. The Seahawks will start with very good field position.
7:23 PM: On third and six from the Washington 38, Hasselbeck finds Burleson along the sideline for the first down. The Seahawks are now well within Josh Brown’s range.
7:25 PM: But who needs a field goal? Matt Hasselbeck hooks up with D.J. Hackett for a 20-yard touchdown strike. Marcus Pollard follows it up by catching a Hasselbeck toss to pick up the 2-point conversion. The Seahawks retake the lead, 21-14 with 6:06 to play.
7:28 PM: So…about that special teams ballwashing. Rock Cartwright returns the kickoff past midfield, though a 10-yard blocking penalty will bring it back to Washington territory.
7:30 PM: There goes that 158.3 rating. Marcus Trufant picks off a Collins bomb in the general vicinity of Santana Moss and returns it 78 yards for a touchdown. Seattle has its biggest lead of the game with 5:38 remaining, 28-14.
7:34 PM: Washington will start from its own 28.
7:36 PM: Clinton Portis just limped off for the Redskins after his knee twisted under him on a Darryl Tapp tackle.
7:38 PM: On 3rd and 8, Santana Moss elevates to make the catch and keep Washington’s backs from against the wall, at least for the time being.
7:40 PM: Todd Collins overthrows Santana Moss on the sideline on 4th and 8, and with 2:41 remaining, it appears the Seahawks will move on to play the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field next weekend.
7:43 PM: Three unproductive running plays wipe out Washington’s timeouts and take the game to the two-minute warning.
7:47 PM: The Redskins will start from their own 24 with 1:52 left. It looks dire.
7:49 PM: Jordan Babineaux ices it by picking off Collins at midfield and jogging it back for a meaningless score. Seattle 35, Washington 14.
FINAL SCORE: SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 35, WASHINGTON REDSKINS 14
